Alameda D. Afonso Henriques
The Alameda D. Afonso Henriques is between Avenida Manuel de Maia and the Fonte Luminosa (Rua Barão Sabrosa) and is crossed by Avenida Almirante Reis.
This “Alameda” or promenade has an area of approximately 5 hectares. On the flatter part it has a large lawn and a children’s playground. On the “Fonte Luminosa” there is a belvedere and a pleasant green area. The Alameda Metro facilitates access to various zones of the city.
In the Estado Novo (New State) period, Lisbon underwent a policy of expansion and embellishment with modern-looking, monumental and nationalistic characteristics. The city was the stage for the construction of spaces that would come to be emblematic and Alameda D. Afonso Henriques is one of them.
